A conversation with the winemaker, in the height of the hot summer
My approach to wine is simple: if I like it then I feel satisfied, if you like it too that makes me happy. Very much so! Quality is very important and I have excellent advisors and collaborators, like my father Johann whose experience permeates the work.

How I came to wine
Like many young people in South Tyrol, I moved away to study. A few years later I returned home with a master’s degree in agricultural science, and it was almost inevitable that I became involved in research. For several years I worked on insect pests in wine growing and I am still very interested in ecological plant protection.
We have always made wine at the Rynnhof. Most of our grapes went to the cooperative, and as if often the case in this area we produced a little wine for ourselves.
In 2011, we decided as a family to go one step further. My father began making organic wine, while I trained as a sommelier. Then in 2015 I gave up my research to become an organic winemaker. For me organic wine production is the only option, after all, I spend a lot of time working in the vineyard.

Our wines
We focus on the four main varieties that are best suited to us and to the region: for the white wines we have an aromatic Traminer and a Pinot Blanc, while for the reds we have Lagrein and Schiava. In addition, depending on the vintage, there are cuvées or a rosé wine.
In wine growing, no two years are the same. I look forward to each new harvest with great trepidation and intense anticipation and I am always happy to bestow my expertise and care on the grapes as they make their journey to the glass. I like the idea of sharing our story with other people through our wines.
